FAQ

Common questions about prescriptions

What does nominating a pharmacy mean?

It means your electronic prescriptions are sent straight to the pharmacy you choose, instead of you collecting a paper prescription from your GP surgery. Your chosen pharmacy receives your prescriptions until you change or remove the nomination.

Do I have to nominate Acorn Pharmacy?

No. You are free to choose the pharmacy that best meets your needs. There is no obligation to nominate a particular pharmacy, and nobody should try to influence your choice.

Can I change my nominated pharmacy later?

Yes, at any time. You can change your choice in the NHS App or on the NHS website, or by asking your GP surgery. If you change it, any prescriptions you've already requested may still arrive at your previous pharmacy.

Does it cost anything?

Nominating a pharmacy is free. Usual NHS prescription charges apply where they're relevant to you — and you may be entitled to free prescriptions.

What happens once Acorn Pharmacy is nominated?

When your GP issues a prescription it comes to us electronically, so we can start preparing your medicines and let you know when they're ready to collect or deliver.

Do you text me when my repeat prescription is ready?

Yes. We send text message updates for repeat prescriptions, so you'll know when your medicines are ready. If you'd like to receive them, ask at the counter or call 01480 425412 and we'll check we have your current mobile number.

Where are you based and when are you open?

We're at the Oak Tree Centre, 1 Oak Dr, Huntingdon PE29 7HN, with free parking on site. We're open Monday to Friday 08:45–18:00, closed 13:00–14:00, and closed at weekends.
