Common questions
How much does it cost?
Emergency contraception is free on the NHS for eligible patients, following a short consultation with our pharmacist.
How quickly do I need to act?
The sooner the better. Some emergency contraception pills work for up to a few days after unprotected sex, but they are more effective the earlier you take them. Don't wait — pop in or call us straight away.
Do I need an appointment?
No. You can call ahead on 01480 425412 so we can make sure the pharmacist is free, or simply pop in during opening hours.
What happens in the consultation?
A short, private chat in our consultation room. The pharmacist will ask a few confidential questions about your health and any medicines you take to make sure emergency contraception is suitable for you.
Is it confidential?
Yes. Everything you tell us stays private. With your permission, we'll let your GP know so your records stay up to date.
What if the pill isn't right for me?
If emergency hormonal contraception isn't suitable for you, the pharmacist will explain why and point you to your GP or a local sexual health service, who can talk you through all the options.
